How to Clean Engineered Quartz Surfaces

It is more important now than ever to ensure that all of your stone surfaces - especially those in your kitchen and other high traffic areas in your home - are cleaned properly and on a regular basis.

As Canada’s leading stone fabricator, we have put together a few tips on how to keep your engineered quartz surfaces clean and looking great for years to come.

Regular Cleaning

Regular cleaning is one of the most important things you can do when it comes to ensuring your engineered quartz surfaces are safe for you and your loved ones. You can do so in two easy steps:

  1. Take a soft cloth or sponge and dip it in a mix of warm water and soap

  2. Take the cloth or sponge and begin to gently but firmly wipe down the quartz countertops

You can repeat this process as often as you see fit.

Disinfecting Quartz Surfaces

Another important step to keeping your countertops germ free is disinfecting them using simple disinfectant.

You can create a simple disinfectant using ¼ cup rubbing alcohol and two cups of water in a spray bottle. You may wish to add 1-2 drops of essential oils to add a nice smell to the mixture.

Spray the countertops down, making sure to cover the entire surface.

Allow the cleaning solution to sit for 2-3 minutes and then wipe off the excess using a non-abrasive cloth.

Avoid detergents and cleaners that can be abrasive and contain chemicals high in acid or alkaline, as these can damage your stone surface.

Clean Up Spills Immediately

Accidents happen. Even though engineered stone like quartz will resist stains for a small period of time, you should not let the stains sit there for too long, as this could damage your countertops.

You should clean quartz as soon as the spill happens by taking a mild soap and water mix to clean up the spill. Permanent stains can occur if the spill was coffee, wine, or tea. Be careful not to spill and do your best to clean them up as fast as possible if they do happen.

Protect Your Quartz Surfaces

Quartz is a hard surface, but not hard enough to withstand the abuse of sharp objects like knives. The same goes for extremely hot objects.

Although quartz surfaces are scratch and heat resistant, you should not cut or place extremely hot objects directly on the quartz surface.

The use of cutting boards and trivets will help protect the surface of your quartz countertop against these kinds of damaging effects.

Conclusion

There are many reasons why you should actively clean and protect your engineered quartz countertops. By following these tips, you can help ensure that you get years of enjoyment out of your countertops, while keeping your loved ones safe and healthy.
